Curriculum
I will be covering the BC curriculum with an emphasis placed on Christian perspectives. In addition to the BC curriculum, we will be having weekly Bible lessons and Chapel as well as daily Devotions. I am looking forward to students learning about what our Lord has blessed us with and how we can better serve Him!
Bible Study
Grade 5 & 6 students will be discovering different character traits through Bible study, Devotions, and Object Talks.
Fine Arts
Art:
Students will express themselves through various art projects. We will be creating our own masterpieces inspired by the works of Emily Carr, Georgia Okeeffe, Vincent van Gogh, Pablo Picasso, Piet Mondrian, Andy Warhol, Claude Monet, Norval Morrisseau, and M.C. Escher. Various tools and techniques will be used when creating art.
Drama:
Drama will consist of fun games and activities that encourage participation. The key word is: Fun! In addition, drama will help prepare students for leading chapel as well as performing in the Christmas concert.
Music:
Mrs. Herzog will be teaching the class music this year.

Our classroom will be enriched in Language Arts. We will be exploring reading through Reader's Workshop as well as Novel Studies. Students will be doing various styles of writing, such as short stories, comics, essays, and poetry. Please make sure to visit the Students' Blog. This is Language Arts in action!

Students will be exploring French culture through research and participating in a French fare in the spring. In addition, students will practice speaking and responding to common phrases/questions. The key is to have fun and to practice, practice, practice!

We will be covering several topics this year: Canadian government, types of governments around the world, famous Canadians, geography, Confederation, and social issues. And, students will learn the art of debating!

We will be visiting the computer lab to work on assignments and to learn new computer skills.

Physical Education & Health and Career Education
PE:
Physical activity is important to the well-being of everyone! We will be doing activities inside the gym as well as outside (on non-rainy days). Some of the activities include: tagging games, practicing sports, and learning simple dances.
